Welcome
Welcome to the web page of the Midlands Model Railway Club. The following is a brief introduction to the Club and its activities. We hope to expand upon this information in the near future and to update the web page on an ongoing basis with news and events.
Introduction
We are a small group of railway modellers, who have recently (February 2009) formed a club based at Heritage House, Abbeyleix, Co. Laois. After years of searching for a potential clubroom, we are now looking forward to being able to combine our modelling efforts and enhance our enjoyment of the hobby we share. See Club Background
Although small in number, our members are varied in terms of skill level and modelling interest. Several have their own layouts and have been active modellers for many years, while others have been confined to “armchair modelling” or consider themselves to be relative beginners. See Selected Members Profiles
While many of our members come from Laois and the surrounding counties, we offer membership to anyone aged 18 or over who wishes to join us and has an interest in railway modelling. Regardless of their modelling background, we believe that each member will gain benefit from involvement with the Club and its activities. If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact any of the Club’s Officers. See Contacts Club Officers
Our initial project is to construct a Club layout, which will enable members to run their own favourite locomotives and rolling stock. Although very much a combined effort, naturally, those with more experience are taking a leading role in this project. At the same time, though, they are providing the opportunity for the less experienced to learn new skills and to get useful tips on all aspects of the construction process. See Current Project
We hope you enjoy browsing this web page and reading about our Club, its members and their activities. If you have an interest in railway modelling, we would be delighted to hear from you. In the meantime, you may wish to visit other relevant web sites for which we have provided some useful links. See Useful Links
